Description

Berat is one of those places that you travel to a country for! Some may call it cliche, but its homes and windows deserve the reputation they have – it is a must-stop visit on anyone’s tour to Albania.  This place really has to be seen to be believed – the views from the castle and walking along the quaint stone roads going every which-way is truly unique.  Bring your camera and an appetite!

Itinerary
Itinerary:
  • 9:00 – Your guide will pick you up and you’ll drive to Berat (approximately 2 hour drive). We shall drive you there in the direction of the beautiful natural Lakes of Belshi. Quite a scenic road. Quick coffee break on the way if you will be interested in. We shall also drive you through the town of Kucova, once upon a time called Qyteti (City) Stalin. A MIG plane is displayed here as another element illustrating the recent past of militarized paranoid Albanian communist regime.
  • 11:00– Visit the Castle of Berat (over 2400 years old), some of the chapels, the houses with their beautiful architecture and the Onufri Museum that houses beautiful paintings
  • 13:15 – lunch in one of the small family restaurants within the fortress – we will recommend a delicious traditional meal for you!
  • 14:15 – Drive down to the lower neighborhoods of Berat for a walking tour. This will bring you to the Medieval Center (King’s Mosque, Halveti Teqe and Caravan Saraj), Mangalemi neighborhood and its small beautiful streets (make sure you are good at going uphill for a bit), the bridge of Gorica and the neighborhood of Gorica itself.
  • 16:30 – drive back to Tirana
